Guy began woodcarving in the early 1970’s, carving one or two pieces a year. In 1995 he retired and began carving full-time. Guy’s specialty is carving animals, however, he carves images of people and objects as well. Guy studied Commercial Art at the University of Evansville and is an accomplished painter as well as woodcarver. Guy is a member of the Ashland, Kentucky area Woodcarvers Association. He has won multitudes of awards for his carvings throughout Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia as well as had his pieces displayed in various museums within those states. Guy carves from a variety of woods, including black walnut, basswood, cypress, driftwood, sassafras, pine, and butternut. No two carvings are alike as he uses the natural characteristics of each piece of wood to determine what it will become.
