Debbie began sewing as a child using scraps of fabric left over from her mother’s fabric stash. She began by making doll clothes, then clothes for herself and later for her two daughters. In 1996, Debbie began accompanying her husband as he traveled on business and at the suggestion of her mother, took along some fabric and began teaching herself to quilt. Several years later she joined the local quilt guild where she remains a member today. Debbie is especially proud that every year the local quilt guild makes lap quilts and donates them to local nursing homes. Debbie’s quilts not only grace her home and that of her friends and family, but are also frequently displayed in the Laurel Gorge Cultural Heritage Center located in Sandy Hook, Kentucky. Debbie’s quilts have won numerous awards throughout Kentucky, including the Viewer’s Choice Award with the Kentucky Heritage Quilt Society.
